The Skiing
A 19,000 acre tenure at your fingertips
Our terrain is epic
19,000 acres of skiable terrain. That’s more than twice the size of Whistler-Blackcomb, and it’s all available to your small group.
Suited to intermediate to advanced skiers with some touring experience under their belt, the VMT terrain provides everything you could dream of. Our average day is 1300-2000m of vertical, but there are always options for shorter or longer days depending on the weather, the group and the time of year.
Whether you’re into big mountain lines or shredding pow in the trees, skin up at the front door and head out to explore. There’s so much on offer, you’ll be skiing somewhere new every day.
The options are endless
ALPINE - The alpine in the North Valhallas is simply spectacular, and many of our lines are north facing. Places like Shannon Lake, Caribou Ridge, Grizzly Meadows and Big Sister offer 600 vertical meters of the driest powder snow of your life.
RIDGES - The peaks and ridges surrounding us are skiable on clear days with stable snow. Standing as tall as 2500m they provide 360° views of the Bugaboos, Kokanee Glacier, the rugged South Valhallas and majestic peaks in the Selkirks. Once you’ve climbed to the top and had your fill of endless mountain vistas, enjoy descents of over 800m back to the lodge.
TREES - And when the peaks aren’t visible, you get to experience our epic tree skiing. Find everything from mellow glades to 40° pillow lines through mature timber. Our tree runs are 400-600m long and can be found on all aspects, offering incredible options no matter the conditions.
The snow is incredible
VMT is lucky enough to experience moderate winter temperatures and abundant snowfall throughout the season. By mid-winter our snowpack typically stands around 3 metres (10 feet) deep.
We have access to a ton of sheltered north facing terrain, meaning we’re often skiing consistently dry powder while other areas nearby have been hit by wind, sun, or warm temperatures. For those who are yet to experience the phenomenon of “Kootenay Coldsmoke” - the lightest, driest powder on earth, you stand a good chance of finding some within our tenure.
And even if there’s a tricky snowpack or a period of less than ideal weather, we’ve got such a large amount of terrain that we can safely ski during periods of higher hazard, or find pockets to shred when everyone else is hitting groomers.

The VMT Seasons
Early Winter (Dec-mid Jan)
Stoke is high, legs are fresh and the natural light is goddamn delightful. If you love a sunset, cozying up to the fire and shredding some of the driest and lightest powder of the season, an early winter trip is for you.
By the start of December, we typically have 1.2-1.5m of settled snow at the lodge and almost all of our terrain is open and skiing well. Don’t tell everyone, but early winter is the best kept secret.
Mid Winter (mid Jan - early March)
The snowpack is deep, your gear is dialed and the days are that welcome moment longer. Mid winter typically sees periods of cold high pressure that combine incredible snow quality with gorgeous sunshine days.
Mid winter weeks at VMT get booked up well in advance. Sign up to our newsletter or send us an email to find out when the next spots open up.
Spring (March - April)
The sun is shining, the days are long and the Hawaiian shirts are out. Spring is also time for one of our favorite phenomenons: convective storms. It’s not uncommon to get 5-10cm of new snow in a few hours every afternoon, while rays of sunshine make the snowflakes sparkle.
Incredible powder days exist right through April, and long sunny days in between allow us to explore the farther reaches of the tenure.
