Getting Here:

New Denver, a quiet town of 750 people, is the closest town south of our departure point. Nakusp is the closest town north. They have all the necessary services. New Denver is 1 hour driving time north from Nelson or Castlegar on Highway 6. If you are coming from the Trans-Canada Highway, Nakusp is 2 hours driving time south from Revelstoke, on Highway 6. The Shelter Bay Ferry is 45 minutes from Revelstoke, and leaves every hour, on the hour, 6 am to 11 p.m.

 

Pre Trip Night:

Most skiers spend their pre-trip night in New Denver. There are a number of accommodation possibilities. Dome Quixote , 250 358-7242, Silverton Resort, 358 7157, Sweet Dreams Guesthouse 358-2415. In Nakusp you can book accommodation at the Selkirk Inn (250-265-3666) or many other hotels and B&Bs.

 

Meeting the Snowcat at 11:00 Sunday Morning:

The snowcat departs from the small community of Hills. To get there drive 13 km north of New Denver or approx 30km south of Nakusp on Highway 6. In Hills, turn left on Bonanza Road and go 1 km to the bridge. The Shannon Creek Forestry Road goes off to the right just after the bridge, and this is where the snowcat will be waiting. We then sign waivers, load your gear onto the snowcat and sleigh and depart for the trip to the lodge (1 1/4 hrs.), 11:00 AM is our meeting time at the snowcat. We depart from the lodge at 9:00AM the following Sunday at the end of your ski week, arriving back at the vehicles by 10:30.
